Kick-off Event
Thursday, November 6, 2008 Join us at the Cultural Center for the Arts for the first official special event to welcome the Japanese experience to Canton. Sake tasting, sushi tasting and a peek at some fabulous Mikimoto pearls will put us in an Asian frame of mind. Sake sommelier Beau Timken of San Francisco will be on hand to enlighten & entertain us about Sake. More details to follow. -
Grand Opening Event
Saturday, February 7, 2009 Enjoy authentic food & drinks and spectacular entertainment highlighting the culture of Japan as the Great Court of the Cultural Center is transformed into a vision of the orient during this gala dinner and exhibit preview event. More details to follow. -
Japanese Film Festival
January – April, 2009 Join us at the Palace Theatre for sub-titled films from Japan, introduced by Linda Erhlich, associate professor of Japanese and Comparative Literature at Case Western Reserve University. Participating downtown restaurants will offer early bird Japanese inspired dinner specials prior to the films. Dates, restaurants and film titles will be announced here, on the KIMONO Calendar of Events, and on the Palace Theatre website. -
Japanese Cooking Classes

Closing Event
Sunday, April 26, 2009The Closing Event, Come Fly a Kite!, will be held at Canton Country Day School on Sunday, April 26, 2009, 1:00-3:30PM. This kid-centered free festival will feature performances and make-and-take activities like origami, cooking, kite building, and kimono painting. Closing Remarks at 3:00 pm will be followed by kite-flying on the spacious CCDS campus located in the Avondale area.

Japanese inspired performers, artisans, entertainers, visual artists, displays and hands-on activities will take place during the 12 weeks that KIMONO is in Canton. Musicians, dancers, artists and teachers will be on hand to disperse the flavor of Japan throughout the Cultural Center. Ikabana (flower) and Bonsai displays, a Tea House and tea ceremonies, Japanese art classes, workshops and activities will take place from February though April of 2009. educational outreach
We are taking our enthusiasm for Japan and the KIMONO exhibit out into the community! Area schools, colleges and universities, teachers, children, businesses, organizations and groups will be involved in the KIMONO education process through our outreach programs. On-site demonstrations, speakers, and activities will be offered, as well as in-house workshops, lectures and classes at the Canton Museum of Art and the Cultural Center for the Arts.
